UG-SRC Launches First-Ever ‘Day of Giving’ During Day with VC Event to Promote Inclusive Education and Student Welfare

The Students’ Representative Council (SRC) of the University of Ghana has launched its maiden Day of Giving campaign aimed at enhancing student welfare, promoting inclusive education, and supporting mental health initiatives.
The announcement was made during this year’s “UGSRC Day with the Vice-Chancellor,” held under the theme “A Legacy of Purpose: Reflecting on the Transformative Student Experience.”
Slated for 15 August 2025, the Day of Giving seeks to raise GHS 220,000 to procure assistive devices for students with disabilities, refurbish learning and recreational spaces, and boost mental health awareness campaigns across campus.
In her remarks, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, commended the SRC executives for their forward-thinking leadership and described the UGSRC as “a valuable partner” in the University’s goal of enhancing student life.
SRC Vice-President, Mr. Jeffery Adu-Yeboah, expressed optimism about the campaign’s potential and called on students, alumni, and friends of the University to support the initiative. “Giving should be a culture we embrace,” he said, adding that the campaign aligns with the University’s strategic vision of delivering a transformative student experience.

As part of the event, a panel discussion was held with participation from key University leaders, including the Vice-Chancellor, Registrar, Mrs. Emelia Agyei-Mensah, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Gordon Awandare, and Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Rosina Kyerematen. Discussions focused on campus safety, the UG@75 Legacy Project, sports development, and the University’s growing student population.

The Day of Giving marks a milestone in student-led initiatives on campus and highlights the growing collaboration between students and administration in addressing shared concerns.
