The Department of History, in partnership with the Adu Boahen Foundation, has held the maiden edition of the Adu Boahen Memorial Lecture to celebrate the life, legacy and scholarly contributions of one of Ghana’s most distinguished historians, Prof. Albert Adu Boahen.
The event, themed “Boahen, History and the Archives: A Personal Reflection,” provided a platform for reflection on the late scholar’s impact on African historiography and his role in shaping academic discourse.
Delivering the keynote address, Prof. Kofi Darkwah, a retired Professor of History, shared personal and professional experiences with the late Prof. Adu Boahen. He praised Adu Boahen’s pioneering work in legitimising African history and dismantling Eurocentric narratives, describing him as a trailblazer who transformed the understanding of Africa’s past.
Chairing the lecture, Prof. Wazi Apoh, Dean of the School of Arts, emphasised the continued relevance of the Arts within education. He called for deeper integration of Arts into STEM, noting that cultural and historical understanding remains crucial for sustainable development and global citizenship.
