  1. Position:                  Project Manager

​                                      Reporting to:           Chair-Project Steering Committee

Background

The University of Ghana in collaboration with its consortium partners will undertake a project on AntiMicrobial Resistance (AMR) in Ghana. The project primarily focuses on improving laboratory capacity for diagnosis and surveillance of AMR in low-income countries where AMR has a disproportionate impact.

Job Purpose

Subject to receipt of funding, a full-time Project Manager will work under the supervision of the Project Steering Committee and closely with the Project Team to ensure effective implementation of the project activities.

The Project Manager will lead a variety of project planning and management activities.

He/She will be responsible for the day-to-day management and execution of the project and will report directly to the Chair of the Project Steering Committee

Duties and Responsibilities

These will include but not limited to:

  • Contribute to strategic and logistical planning for the project
  • Work in partnership with the Technical leads to drive the coordination of all project activities
  • Develop systems, procedures and standard operating procedures for project implementation/ execution
  • Create and maintain workflow systems for task completion, documentation, and data management; develop data collection procedures and measures
  • Work closely with the Finance Manager to ensure timely submission of financial documentation as required
  • Draft all communications and reporting for the Technical Oversight Committee and the Office of Research, Innovations and Development(ORID)
  • Organize and coordinate all project meetings, protocols, purchasing, and daily project logistics
  • Supervise project support staff
  • Supervise and assist with data collection, management, organization, and dissemination of findings (including technical reports, scientific publications, and oral/written presentations)
  • Liaise with the Finance Manager and external auditors to undertake monthly verification exercises and monitor compliance with regulations, policies, and IRB requirements
  • Liaise with the Finance Manager to develop and maintain an updated asset register
  • Monitor inventory, office stock and order supplies as and when necessary
  • Work closely with the Finance Manager and Technical Leads in writing detailed narrative and financial reports for timely submission to funder
  • Liaise with the Technical Working Groups to collect, collate, analyse, report and disseminate AMR data for the purpose of strengthening the statutory mandated custodian of health data in Ghana
  • Provide project support for all off-site activities
  • Track project activities against detailed project plans.

Qualifications & Experience

Candidate must possess

  • A good Bachelor’s degree preferably in Project Management. A post-graduate qualification in Project Management will be an advantage.
  • A minimum of four (4) years’ project management experience on large, national and multi-stakeholder projects Or In grants management from bilateral, multi-lateral development entities
  • A proven track record in effective project activity and financial reporting, including close-out of large funded national projects 

Competencies

  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to use relevant computer software
  • Ability to meet timelines and work on tasks that may require flexible working hours including evenings and weekends

This appointment is valid for eighteen (18) months and may be extended subject to further funding of the project and impressive performance.
