UG Council Chair Continues Facility Tour with Visits to Tema, LIPREC and Borteyman

Chair of the University of Ghana Council, Madam Marietta Brew, on Thursday embarked on the second leg of her official tour of the University’s facilities, accompanied by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo and other senior officials.
The tour included stops at the newly established Tema Learning Centre, the Livestock and Poultry Research Centre (LIPREC) and the University’s lands at Borteyman.
At the Tema Learning Centre, Madam Brew commended University Management for taking steps to expand access through satellite facilities. She encouraged staff at the Centre to develop strategies aimed at increasing student enrollment, particularly among workers and residents in the surrounding industrial enclave.
Vice-Chancellor Amfo, speaking during the visit, called for deeper collaboration between the Centre and the main Legon campus. She detailed the need for resource mobilisation, proactive recruitment and visibility efforts ahead of the upcoming admissions season.
While visiting LIPREC, located at Nmai Dzorn, the Council Chair applauded the dedication of staff and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the Centre’s research and training mandate in the area of agricultural innovation and food systems.
The final stop of the tour was at Borteyman, where Madam Brew addressed the issue of ongoing land encroachment. She tasked the Physical Development and Municipal Services Directorate (PDMSD) to produce a detailed report to guide University action on protecting its land holdings.
The Council Chair’s facility tour forms part of broader efforts to strengthen oversight, deepen institutional engagement and assess on-the-ground progress in line with the University’s 2024–2029 Strategic Plan.
