Vice-Chancellor Hosts Student Leaders
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, has hosted student leaders of the University led by the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) President, Mr. Prince Asumadu and the President of the UG Chapter of the Graduate Students’ Association of Ghana (GRASAG), Legon, Ms. Christiana Adu, to an interactive reception at the Vice-Chancellor’s Lodge.
Prof. Gordon Awandare, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Academic and Student Affairs (ASA), in his welcome remarks, stated that the purpose of the gathering was to interact with leaders regarding the Vice-Chancellor’s vision and explore areas of concern to students. He indicated that students were crucial stakeholders, and the focus of Management was aimed at an enjoyable student experience.

Prof. Awandare said “As leaders, you would acquit yourselves well to justify the efforts made in order to step up your leadership structures and allow the SRC to be stabilised for Management of the University”.
Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, in brief remarks appreciated patrons and faculty members present and mentioned that it was important for Management to liaise with students. She stated a number of initiatives has been set rolling to enhance students’ experience.
Prof. Amfo said “Our objective is to produce students and graduates who can adapt digitally, and we think it’s a critical skill in the 21st Century… that is why it is important to us that our students have the gadgets and technology to compete and match the changing world”, she added.

The Vice-Chancellor added that it is vital to boost classrooms with technology to make lectures easier and faster and manage student numbers without creating overcrowding. In her remarks, Prof. Amfo indicated that student accommodation is an issue of concern and there were ongoing projects to curb the situation.
Prince Asumadu, on behalf of student leaders, expressed delight for the hospitality of the Vice-Chancellor and stated that it is important to train students for the job market. Mr. Asumadu further noted that it is necessary to upscale student accommodation for easy access to facilities on campus. He also pledged to support the vision of the Vice-Chancellor.
During the interactive reception, the student leaders shared challenges and difficulties that continue to plague them and suggested solutions to Management of the University.
