12 Undergraduate Law Students Receive Scholarships from Lebanese Community

12 undergraduate students studying Law at the University of Ghana have been presented with scholarships by the Lebanese Ambassador to Ghana. The scholarships were awarded as part of the Lebanese Government’s initiative to finance the studies of brilliant students in the various tertiary institutions in Ghana. The short ceremony took place at the Students Financial Aid Office, University of Ghana.

In his remarks, the Lebanese Ambassador to Ghana, His Excellency Ali Halabi, noted that the 12 scholarships were part of 22 scholarships granted by the Lebanese community in Ghana. He added that the scholarships were given strictly on the academic performance of the beneficiaries. His Excellency Halabi encouraged the beneficiaries to work hard to maintain their academic performance so as to qualify again next year.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Ernest Aryeetey, expressed his gratitude to the Lebanese Ambassador and the entire Lebanese community in Ghana for the continuous support to brilliant students over the years. He noted in particular the fact that the number of beneficiaries had been increased from 7 in the past year to 12, and hoped that the relationship between the University and the Lebanese Embassy will be enhanced.

Prof. Aryeetey urged the beneficiary students to take advantage of the opportunity and work hard to achieve continuous academic success.

Dean of the School of Law, Prof. Edward Kofi Quashigah

The Dean of the School of Law, Prof. Edward Kofi Quashigah, asked the beneficiaries to be encouraged from the gesture rather than see it as an opportunity to gloat over. He advised them to work harder to ensure that they receive the scholarships again next year.

Ms. Maureen Bansa, a representative of the beneficiaries, expressed her appreciation to the Lebanese community for recognizing their hard work. She assured the benefactors that they would continue to work hard to prove themselves worthy of the awards.

The ceremony was attended by the Head of the Student Financial Aid Office, Mrs. Christine Baning and the Director of Public Affairs, Mrs. Stella A. Amoa.
