2016 Retirees’ Send-off Ceremony Held

 

The University of Ghana has held a send-off ceremony for 161 employees, consisting of 46 senior members, 55 senior staff and 60 junior staff who retired from the University at the end of July 2016.  

Registrar, Mrs. Mercy Haizel-Ashia

The Registrar, Mrs. Mercy Haizel-Ashia, welcomed the retirees and expressed management’s gratitude to them for their selfless services to the University. 

 

Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ebenezer Oduro Owusu

In his address, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ebenezer Oduro Owusu, while congratulating them on their retirement, paid glowing tribute to them, adding that they had contributed to the life and work of the University.   He assured them of the University’s continued support even in retirement, and said the University would also count on them when necessary, for advice. 

All retiring employees received a Certificate of Appreciation indicating their years of service, in addition to their financial package commensurate with their years of service. 

 

   

Some Representatives of Staff Associations delivering solidarity messages

The various employee associations, UTAG, FUSSAG and TEWU delivered messages of felicitation to their members.  FUSSAG (representing Senior Staff) and TEWU (representing Junior Staff) gave each of their members’ certificates and plaques to commemorate their retirement. 

 

Ms. Felicia Afua Ntow, speaking on behalf of the retirees  

Ms. Felicia Afua Ntow, on behalf of the 2016 Retirees, expressed appreciation to the University for the opportunity to serve in the various capacities and positions.  She acknowledged the University’s role in providing both academic and social benefits, which she said, was not only enjoyed by employees, but extended to their dependents.  She catalogued some of them, as concessionary admissions, medical care, library facilities and the comfort of accommodation as well as for the wonderful end-of-service send-off party.  She asked for blessings for her colleague retirees and wished all a successful retirement.
