BBC Films World Debate Programme on Ebola at Great Hall

The British Broadcasting Cooperation, Global News Network has filmed, The World Debate at the Great Hall of the University of Ghana. The BBC World Debate is a major programme on the BBC World News channel which aims to convene panels that engage in a robust exchange of views, providing a range of insights and expertise on challenging issues.

The debate which was moderated by BBC’s renowned presenter Zeinab Badawi was on the topic, “Ebola: What Next – Who runs a country when it’s in crisis?

The debate had as members of the panel, Dr. Moustapha Koutoub Sano, Guinea Minister of International Co-operation, Leyma Gbowee, Liberia Nobel Peace Prize winner, Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, UN Women Executive Director and former Deputy President of South Africa, Arnold Ekpe, former Chief Executive of Ecobank and  Jan Egeland the Secretary General of the Norwegian Refugee Council. Members of the audience were made up people from diverse backgrounds including researchers, students, media practitioners and activists, who had the opportunity to engage panelists in discussions on the topic as well as ask questions.

 

The debate was recorded for both BBC world radio and world television service.

On the eve of the debate a team from the BBC and Dr. Moustapha Koutoub Sano, Guinea Minister of International Co-operation paid a courtesy call on Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ernest Aryeetey. The team included Presenter Zainab Badawi, Mary Hockaday, Head of BBC World Service English and Geraldine Ryan, Senior producer of the Programme.

 

Prof. Aryeetey welcomed them to the University of Ghana and gave a brief history of the University.

 

Zainab Badawi expressed her gratitude to the University for the opportunity to use the facilities for their event.

There was also a pre-event cocktail at the forecourt of the Great Hall attended by local and internationals partners of the BBC, and some Officials of the University.
