College of Health Sciences Hosts Delegation from Gulf Medical University

The Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Rev. Prof. Patrick F. Ayeh-Kumi, has hosted a delegation from Gulf Medical University (GMU), United Arab Emirates at the Noguchi Memorial Institute of Medical Research (NMIMR), University of Ghana.

Speaking at the meeting, the Provost welcomed the delegation led by the Chancellor, Professor Hossam Hamdy. He congratulated them on the decision to establish a GMU Ghana Campus in the Country and assured them of the College’s preparedness to continue to collaborate with them.

The Chancellor of GMU was grateful to Prof. Ayeh-Kumi and the University for the warm reception accorded them and indicated that it was time for the College of Health Sciences and GMU to take their collaboration to the next level. He further lauded the Provost’s vision for higher education in Ghana and beyond.

Professor Hamdy indicated that GMU has the support of their President to establish the Ghana Campus with the aim of training health professionals for the country and beyond. The Campus when established, would undertake cutting edge research to advance medical education in the Country. He was hopeful that the University’s faculty would collaborate with their colleagues at GMU in undertaking these research projects.

In his concluding remarks, Professor Hamdy invited the College of Health Sciences and the University as a whole to collaborate with GMU in organizing an International Conference on Medical Education in Ghana in the coming year.

The visit by the delegation from Gulf Medical University was to reciprocate a similar visit by the Provost of the College of Health Sciences last year. It is anticipated that this would further strengthen the relationship between the two institutions which was sealed through a memorandum of understanding.
