An exhibition on the scholarly works of Professor Richard M.K Adanu has opened at the Balme Library of the University of Ghana. The exhibition which precedes the inaugural lecture to be delivered by Prof. Adanu, will end on Friday September 26, 2014.
A Ceremony to open the exhibition was attended by Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Prof. Ernest Aryeetey, the University Librarian, Prof. E.E. Badu and the Provost of the College of Health Sciences Professor Yao Tettey.
Prof. Aryeetey described the inaugural exhibitions as major hallmarks of the university, since they provide the chance to appreciate the works of various scholars. He lauded Prof. Adanu for being an example to young academics, adding that he was highly impressed and amazed by how Prof. Adanu rose from Lecturer to full Professor within a time span of 9 years.
In a brief welcome address by the University Librarian Prof. E. E Badu, he stated that the Library is the heart of the University and stressed on the importance of the library in education. He mentioned that the University Library system has improved over the years especially with the introduction of the Research and Knowledge Commons. Prof. Badu noted that the inaugural exhibitions enhance the new library experience.
The Chairman for the ceremony, Prof. Yao Tettey, said he was proud of Prof. Adanu who has been a major example to the students in the College of Health Sciences and the general student body.
Prof. Adanu on his part expressed the hope that the exhibition of his works would serve as a means of encouragement to Junior Members. He described his academic journey so far as challenging but enjoyable, which he backed with prayer for success. He thanked his wife, three daughters and his colleagues for the support they have given him over the years.
Prof. Adanu’s exhibition centres on Maternal Morbidity, Women’s Health, Abortion, Electronic Learning, Open Educational Resource Material (OER), and Skilled Attendance at Birth, as well as, book chapters and technical reports. There was also a video presentation on a caesarian section and photographs showing his life in and out of academics.
Prof. Adanu will deliver his inaugural lecture on Thursday 25th September, 2014.
