The Member of Parliament (MP) for Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency, Hon. Lydia Seyram Alhassan, as part of efforts to enhance security on campus, has donated two motor bikes and a saloon car to the University.
In brief remarks, Hon. Alhassan said she had to cut short her trip when she heard of the assault case involving a student of the university in order to call on management, and also to look for ways in which she could be of assistance as the MP for the area. She indicated that the motive for the gesture was to help increase security visibility and enhance security patrols on campus so as to create a conducive and safe environment for students and members of the University community.
Handing over the keys to the Vice-Chancellor, the Member of Parliament charged the University management to ensure judicious use of the donation, adding that she was committed to assisting the university to the best of her ability.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ebenezer Oduro Owusu, who received the donation on behalf of the University expressed gratitude to the MP and commended her for making security a major priority adding that the donation was timely.

Highlighting the significant role the University plays in national development, Prof. Oduro Owusu urged the MP to consider the University as one of its strategic development area. The Vice-Chancellor used the opportunity to further solicit governmental support for the University in all areas of its operations. He stressed the obligation of the University to prioritize the needs of students as its major stakeholders. Prof. Oduro Owusu on behalf of management, assured the MP of the prudent use of the vehicle and motor-cycles, adding that the University is desirous to seek lasting solutions to enhance security on campus.

The Presidents-elect of the Students Representative Council (SRC) and the Graduate Students Association of Ghana (GRASAG), UG branch, Messrs Isaac Agyemang and Chris Atadika, in separate remarks, expressed appreciation to Hon. Lydia Seyram Alhassan for the kind gesture and solicited more support for the University. They also pledged their commitment to collaborate with management of the university to help realise the mission of the University.

Other advocacy efforts and donations made by the MP since she took office in February 2019, are the donation of 1000 streetlights to the University by the Ministry of Energy, electric fans and litter bins to selected halls of residence as well as torchlights to the University Security Services.
