Prof. Danquah Appointed To Chair Umat Governing Council

Professor Eric Yirenkyi Danquah, nominated by Government, has been appointed Chairman of the Governing Council of the University of Mines and Technology.  He was sworn in with other members of the reconstituted Council recently by the Minister of Education, Prof Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang at a short ceremony at Tarkwa.

The Governing Council has a two year mandate to provide strategic direction and supervision of the activities of the University. 

Inaugurating the Council, Prof Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, Minister of Education tasked the members to ensure that the University provided good education, research and foster collaboration with other bodies.

In his inaugural remarks, Prof Eric Y. Danquah on behalf of members, thanked government for the confidence reposed in them and commended the immediate past Council for their years of service and achievements.  He assured the Minister of the Council’s preparedness to help achieve the mission of UMaT.

Professor Eric Danquah, Professor of Plant Genetics, is the foundation Director of the West Africa Centre for Crop Improvement (WACCI) at the University of Ghana.  Meanwhile, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Ernest Aryeetey has congratulated Prof. Danquah on his appointment.  In a short congratulatory message to him, Vice Chancellor said that “the appointment is clear testament to your leadership qualities and many other outstanding qualities. I am certain that you bring into the position a lot of great UG experience that should excite our colleagues at Tarkwa.”
