UG Sociology Department Opens Exhibition Showcasing 75 Years of Scholarly Impact

As part of activities marking its 75th anniversary, the Department of Sociology at the University of Ghana has opened a week-long exhibition of scholarly works.
The exhibition, which runs until Friday, August 8, 2025, is being held at the Department and is open to students, faculty, researchers, and the general public.
The event highlights the Department’s extensive contributions to research, teaching, and public scholarship over the years. The exhibition focuses on key thematic areas such as globalisation, economy and development, religion, chieftaincy and culture, and health and wellbeingcore fields that reflect the Department’s commitment to addressing critical social issues and influencing national and global policy.

Featured works include landmark publications by past and current faculty members. Among the notable titles on display are The Political Biography of Dr. Kofi Abrefa Busia, Sociology and Development Issues in Ghana, and Foundations of African Social Thought, which demonstrate the Department’s long-standing legacy of advancing knowledge in the social sciences.
Dean of the School of Social Sciences, Prof. Mavis Dako-Gyeke, officially opened the exhibition and called on students and academic stakeholders to actively engage with the materials on display. She emphasised that such scholarly showcases enrich the student experience and promote the University’s strategic goals of impactful research, collaboration, and innovation.

The Department’s 75th Anniversary Celebration continues with other planned activities throughout the semester, celebrating its legacy and ongoing relevance in shaping sociological thought and social transformation in Ghana and beyond.
