UGAANA Swears in New Executives at Biennial Reunion

The University of Ghana Alumni Association, North America (UGAANA) has sworn in a new executive team to steer its affairs for the next term, during its biennial reunion in Maryland, USA.
The new leadership is expected to champion a membership drive across the United States and Canada, deepen alumni networking and mobilise resources to support the University of Ghana, particularly through scholarships and capacity-building initiatives.
The swearing-in, held during a fundraising dinner at Martin’s Crosswinds in Greenbelt, Maryland, was part of the three-day reunion, which also featured panel discussions, networking sessions and a family picnic.
Mr. Kwabena Annor-Ampofo takes over as President, succeeding Dr. Kwadwo Agyei, whose administration ended after a two-year tenure. Other executives are Ms. Eva Addo, Vice-President (Administration); Mr. Anthony Edwin Koomson, Vice-President (Operations); Major John Hudson-Odoi, Organising Secretary; Lady Helima Afia Adum-Atta, General Secretary; Mr. Emmanuel Nimako, Deputy General Secretary; Mr. Tony Kumi, Financial Secretary; and Mr. Martin Kofi Ahlijah, Director of Communications and Publicity.
In a farewell address, the outgoing President, Dr. Kwadwo Agyei, reflected on his two-year term with deep gratitude and pride. “We began our leadership with a commitment to honour the legacy entrusted to us, determined to enhance it through vision, resilience and unity,” he noted.
Dr. Agyei recalled some major achievements during his tenure, which included the expansion of the alumni network, the establishment of four new regional chapters, and the revamping of scholarships for brilliant and needy students. He affirmed the commitment of the outgoing executives to remain steadfast and devoted members of UGAANA, supporting the incoming executives to build on past achievements to make the association stronger.
The incoming President, Mr. Kwabena Annor-Ampofo, assured members of the commitment of the new executives to ensuring that the Association delivers on its mandate.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, who led a university delegation to the reunion, commended the Association for its sustained support to needy students through the scholarship scheme administered by the Students Financial Aid Office (SFAO). She expressed optimism about deepening collaboration between the University and its alumni base in North America.
The Vice-Chancellor expressed gratitude for the invitation to the 2025 reunion and encouraged members to maintain connections for a shared purpose.
The dinner was attended by the Clerk of the Parliament of Ghana, Mr. Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, who delivered the keynote address and Dr. Akwasi Amankwah Ampofo, Vice-President for Financial Reporting and Accounting Policy at Prudential Financial Inc., who chaired the event.
UGAANA also paid tribute to the outgoing executive team for their dedication and service over the past two years. The team comprised Dr. Kwadwo Agyei, President; Ms. Bahijah D. Sheibanee, Vice-President (Administration); Mr. Benny Fiifi Ashun, Vice-President (Operations); Major John Hudson-Odoi, Organising Secretary; Mrs. Doreen Nkrumah, General Secretary; Mr. Emmanuel Nimako, Deputy General Secretary.
Others were Dr. Daniel Apau, Treasurer; Mr. Tony Kumi, Financial Secretary; Mr. Daniel Ennuson, IT Director; Mr. Romeo Gabby Katamani, Deputy IT Director; Mr. Anthony Diawuoh, Communications Director; and Mr. Kwabena Annor-Ampofo, Public Relations Officer.
