VC Inspects Aftermath of Commonwealth Hall Tower Fire Incident

Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, led a team from the University on Wednesday 5th June, 2024, to inspect the Commonwealth Hall Tower that caught fire the previous evening. She was received by the Acting Hall Master, Dr. Charles B. Wiafe-Akenten and the Senior Tutor, Prof. Joseph Adusei Sarkodie.

This visit demonstrates Management’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of students and staff, as well as showing support to members of the University community in times of crisis.

In briefing the team, Dr. Charles B. Wiafe-Akenten reported that the fire had no adverse consequences on human life. He urged the Ghana National Fire Service to conduct a rigorous investigation into the cause of the fire.

Dr. Wiafe-Akenten further expressed appreciation to Management for visiting and inspecting the damage caused by the fire.

On her part, Prof. Amfo thanked the officials from the Ghana National Fire Service for their swift and effective response. She further called on them to work round the clock in the on-going investigation to ascertain the cause and provide guidance on how to prevent future incidents.

The Vice-Chancellor and her team seized the opportunity to inspect other facilities in the Hall including the Amphitheatre, the Hall Library and the conference theatre.

Accompanying the Vice-Chancellor on the tour were, Professor Gordon Awandare, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs (ASA); Dr. Mrs. Elizier Ameyaw-Buronyah, Director of Public Affairs and Ms. Pascaline K. Songsore, Senior Assistant Registrar, Public Affairs Directorate. The team from the Hall included Ms. Angela Sedahor, Acting Hall Bursar and Mr. Francis Tagoe, Principal Administrative Assistant. Also present were the officials of Ghana National Fire Service.
