Vice-Chancellor Launches Strategic Teams

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ebenezer Oduro Owusu, launched the first eight of strategic teams at the University of Ghana Recreational Quadrangle on 3rd November, 2016.

The Registrar, Mrs. Mercy Haizel-Ashia, explained that the creation of strategic teams were highlighted in the Vice Chancellor’s vision statement and the launch was therefore in line with this initiative which would assist him implement strategies that would advance the core areas of the university’s mission and vision.

In his address, the Vice-Chancellor reiterated the sentiments expressed by the Registrar and mentioned that the launch was therefore the result of a promise he made at his induction. He explained that the teams would be tasked to develop innovative ideas to propel the university further in the global arena; and to make the university globally competitive, increase its world ranking, diversify the programmes it offers, and emphasise its desire to be seen as an environmentally conscious and progressive institution. The Vice-Chancellor expressed the hope that the teams would collectively help position the university as the best university in Africa.

The eight strategic teams are: the Institutional Advancement Team, chaired by Prof. Yaa Ntiamoa-Baidu; the Agriculture Centres Commercialisation Committee, co-chaired by Dr. P.A Kuranchie and Dr. Jojo Baidu-Forson; the University of Ghana Rebranding and Marketing Team, under the chairmanship of Prof. Robert Hinson; the Medical School Expansion Team, chaired by Prof. Yao Tettey; the University of Ghana Regional/World Ranking Team, led by Prof. Chris Gordon; the Vice-Chancellor’s Green Project Team, co-chaired by Prof. Chris Gordon and Dr. Benjamin Ofori; the Independent Power Supply Team led by Prof. D. K Onwona-Agyeman, and, finally, the Laboratory Modernization Team under Prof. D. K. Asiedu.

Following pledges of commitment to the team-task by the team chairs or their representatives, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kwame Offei, delivered the closing remarks, reminding the audience that the Vice-Chancellor had demonstrated his belief in teamwork.  He said the teams all have the expertise required to realise the objectives for which they have been set for.

The occasion was also marked by the unveiling of new agricultural equipment, such as tractors, slashers, and mowers procured from the University’s IGF, and some from a donation by the Ministry of Food and Agriculture.
