The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ebenezer Oduro Owusu, today received the German Ambassador, His Excellency Christoph Retzlaff.

The discussions centred mainly on the Memorandum of Understanding between University of Ghana and University of Freiburg which has the intention of jointly developing an International Centre for Advanced Studies in the field of Sustainable Governance.  The Centre which is intended to result in the establishment of a West African Institute for Advanced Studies could emerge as an equivalent to the South African-based Stellenbosch Institute for Advanced Studies and unique within West Africa.  The Centre would bring together the best researchers from West Africa and Germany as well as from other regions of the world to develop, encourage and establish collaborative scientific research and training.

Earlier, in his welcome remarks, the Vice Chancellor, expressed his delight that the University already had cordial relationship with Germany and with the Embassy in Ghana, and was hopeful that the cooperation with University of Freiburg would result in mutual benefit for the two institutions, the two countries and academia as a whole.

The Ambassador was accompanied by the Deputy Head of Mission, Bernhard Abels.
