UBS Alumnus Donates $12,000 Towards Science Laboratory Construction

Seventy years after beginning his education at the University Basic School (UBS), Legon, Mr. Robin J. Dunn has donated $12,000 towards the construction of a state-of-the-art science laboratory for the School.

Mr. Dunn made the donation during a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, at her office.

Recounting his early years, Mr. Dunn shared that he was one of the first pupils to be enrolled in the then Demonstration School on its opening day, before continuing his high school education in Scotland. “Ghana looked after me, nurtured me and taught me to read,” he said, expressing deep gratitude to the country and the University community.

The visit was led by the Chairperson of the UBS Board, Prof. Vera Fiador, and follows Mr. Dunn’s participation as Guest of Honour at the School’s 63rd Speech and Prize-Giving Day held last Saturday.

Prof. Amfo expressed appreciation for the generous donation, describing it as a touching gesture of legacy and gratitude. She noted that Mr. Dunn’s act serves as an inspiring example for alumni to reconnect with and support their alma mater.

The donation forms part of efforts to strengthen science education at the Basic School and aligns with the University’s strategic objective of enhancing student experiences and promoting sustainable resource mobilisation.
