UG Issues Warning Against Encroachment on Borteyman Lands

The University of Ghana has issued a public notice warning against unlawful encroachment on its legally acquired lands at Borteyman in the Greater Accra Region. Portions of these lands have reportedly been occupied or targeted by certain individuals and groups without authorisation.
The University of Ghana affirms that it is the lawful owner of the Borteyman lands and holds valid title and documentation covering the entirety of the property. Any unauthorised entry, occupation, sale, construction, development, allocation, or other activities on the land constitute criminal trespass and encroachment under the Land Act, 2020 (Act 1036), the University of Ghana Act, 2010 (Act 806), and the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).

The University warns that offenders may face prosecution, fines, imprisonment, or demolition of unauthorised structures. The necessary steps to protect the property are in line with the University’s Fifth Strategic Priority: Sustainable Resource Mobilisation and Stewardship, which enjoins UG to safeguard its assets and properties.
Management calls on the general public to refrain from any dealings or developments on the Borteyman lands. Any person who disregards this notice does so at their own risk and will face strict legal consequences.
