CoH Holds Maiden Tecno Scholarship Scheme Ceremony for Students

The College of Humanities, in partnership with Tecno Mobile Limited, has held the maiden edition of a scholarship awards ceremony under the Tecno Star Future Initiative. This seeks to financially support needy but brilliant students throughout their academic journey at the University. 

Delivering the welcome address, Mr. Benedict Fosu Adjei, the College Secretary, stated that the Tecno Future Star Initiative marks a transformative journey in the lives of thirty-five scholars shortlisted to receive support.  

He noted that the initiative established under a Memorandum of Understanding between the College and Tecno Mobile Limited represents the University’s shared commitment to promoting academic excellence and providing opportunities for deserving students.

According to Mr. Fosu Adjei, one hundred thousand Ghana Cedis (GHS100,000) from the benefactors will provide a comprehensive scholarship to cover the cost of tuition, books, accommodation, and pocket allowance and will cater for the recipients during the 2023/2024 academic year. 

Mr. Fosu Adjei further stated that recipients have demonstrated exceptional academic performance with a minimum grade point average of 3.0 and have shown a genuine need for financial assistance.  

“This will help students focus on their studies and realise their full potential,’’ he added.   

Providing statistics on the constitution of the shortlisted recipients, Prof. Richard Boateng, Chair of the Scholarship Vetting Committee, mentioned that the scholarship packages are GHS5,000.00, GHS2,850.00 and GHS1,500.00, respectively.   

He added that the largest group of scholarship recipients are level 200’s who make up about 35%, followed by level 400’s.  

He encouraged the Deans of the various schools to bring back the study of Business Communication as part of elective courses to enhance the skills of writing and responding to emails. 

Provost of the College who doubled as the Chairman for the ceremony, Prof. Daniel Frimpong Ofori, in his address expressed great relief to have received massive support from Tecno Mobile Limited for students who lack financial support.

Mr. Ernest Sonkor, National Channel Manager, Tecno Mobile Limited, in his remarks explained ‘‘we are not only awarding scholarships but investing in the future. We firmly believe that education is the key to unlocking certain potentials and it is through this initiative that significance can be made in the lives of students, as the initiative aims to support brilliant students who face financial challenges.”

We are confident that you will not only achieve your dreams but inspire others in your community to pursue their aspirations with the same vigour and determination. Today marks the beginning of a new chapter in your academic journey, embrace it with enthusiasm, pursue your goals with passion and remember Tecno is here with you every step of the way.’

Ms. Naa Adjeley Koney a visually impaired student from the School of Law received the highest amount of funds. 

Tecno Company Limited presented a dummy cheque of one hundred thousand Ghana Cedis (GHS100,000.00) to the College.
