Miss Josephine Nti Elected as First Female President of the Political Science Students Association
The Political Science Students Association (POSSA) has made history by electing Miss Josephine Nti, a level 300 student as its first female president in over 60 years.
Speaking in an interview with the Public Affairs, Miss Nti expressed her excitement about becoming the association's first female leader and the people's choice. She shared her favourite quote by Paul J. Meyer: “Whatever you vividly imagine, ardently desire, sincerely believe and enthusiastically act upon... must inevitably come to pass.” This quote serves as her inspiration for her role.
She credited Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, the Vice-Chancellor of the University and the institution's first female Vice-Chancellor, as her inspiration for contesting for the position. “Prof. Amfo's achievements motivated me to pursue the position” she disclosed.
Miss Nti outlined her policies, including the establishment of POSSA EduFund, incorporating special needs into the association and promoting skill acquisition. Her top priority is to create a scholarship scheme, which she plans to fund through internal fundraising, reaching out to alumni and engaging influential individuals.
She reiterated her commitment to inclusivity, aiming to ensure that every POSSA member feels a sense of belonging and understands their potential. Her goal is to encourage active participation in all association activities.
With experience as a course representative and other roles at both the high school and the University levels, Miss Nti is confident in her ability to manage the role alongside her academic responsibilities. She expressed confidence in her support system, including her Vice President, Organising Secretary, Head of the Department and the association.
Commenting on the legacy she wants to leave behind at the end of her tenure, Miss Nti said, “My goal is to act boldly, work diligently and inspire other women to recognise and seize opportunities.”
In a congratulatory message for his successor, the immediate past President of the association, Mr. Prince Adjei, extolled Miss Nti for her bravery and focus which led her to break the glass ceiling as the first female President of the association.
He encouraged Miss Nti to continue the excellent work previous presidents have done and ensure that projects such as the Computer Literacy Program, which was initiated during his tenure, can be sustained to benefit students. He also urged her to be responsive to student needs and maintain a listening administration.
