Management Holds Motivational Session for 2024 UBS BECE Candidates

138 University of Ghana Basic School (UBS) JHS 3 students sat for the 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). 

Ahead of the examination on Monday 8th July, 2024, senior officials, members of the Chaplaincy Board and the Parent Teacher Association (PTA), met with the students to wish them well.

Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, the Registrar, Mrs. Emelia Agyei-Mensah, conveyed the VC's warm wishes to the candidates. She encouraged them to stay calm and believe in their abilities to excel.

"Don't panic in the exam room. You are capable of doing it. Be confident and write down everything that you know," she stated.

The Headmistress of the School, Mrs. Christiana Adwubi Armah reassured University Management of the preparedness of the candidates, highlighting the dedication of the teachers in equipping the students for success. She expressed optimism that their efforts will be rewarded with good grades. 

“Our teachers have worked tirelessly under pressure to ensure our stakeholders’ satisfaction and our candidates are all prepared, knowing all the examination details and we eagerly await the crown of glory” she stated. 

While acknowledging past shortcomings, Mrs. Armah expressed renewed hope for the future. "Last year's performance was not a true reflection of our school's ideals and values," she admitted. "However, we believe that a new year embraces new beginnings." 

Representing the Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency, Hon. Lydia Seyram Alhassan, Municipal Chief Executive of Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly, Hon. Sandra Owusu-Ahenkorah wished the students well, urging them to relax and take it easy for a positive outcome. 

On behalf of the MP, she also presented free math sets to each student as a gesture of goodwill.

Board Chairman, UBS, Professor Bernadin Senadza shared words of encouragement, assuring the students of victory at the end of the exams.

Chairman of the Parent-Teacher Association, Mr. Ishmael Edjekumhene, reminded students of their power to decide their own futures, while Rev. Prof. Joseph Osafo Adu, Member of the Chaplaincy Board and Acting Director, Centre for Ageing Studies, UG, offered practical advice for managing exam anxiety, such as taking deep breaths and prioritising questions.

The PTA of the School also presented a Good Luck card to the candidates.

The event concluded with a prayer session led by Prof. Charles Ackah, Chairman of the Chaplaincy Board, who asked for blessings and success for the students in their upcoming exams.

The Basic School also served as an examination centre for seven other schools including Princess Diana School, Kay-Billie-Klaer International School, Elican School, Faith Presbyterian School, Queen’s International School, Mempeasem EP JHS, and Citadel Noble Academy

Also present at the ceremony were the Director of Public Affairs; Mrs. Elizier Ameyaw-Buronyah; Rev. Israel Nicholas Nii Trebi, a member of the Chaplaincy Board; Madam Margaret Kaba, Ayawaso West Municipal Director of Education as well as other members of the UBS Board and the Chaplaincy Board.

Following the conclusion of the examinations, the students were hosted to a brief party.
