Mrs. Josephine Anan-Ankomah Honoured with Honorary Doctorate at 2025 Aggrey-Fraser-Guggisberg Memorial Lectures

Mrs. Josephine Anan-Ankomah, an astute banker and financial leader, was honoured with an Honorary Doctor of Laws (LL.D.), honoris causa, at a Special Congregation ceremony presided over by the Chancellor, Mrs. Mary Chinery-Hesse.

The recognition celebrated her exemplary career, her strategic efforts toward women's empowerment through her foundation, She Blossoms and her dedication to mentorship and financial inclusion.

Prior to the Special Congregation, she delivered the Day Two lecture of the 2025 Aggrey-Fraser-Guggisberg Memorial Lectures, delivering a compelling message on the urgent need to transform financial systems to truly empower women. She stressed that women must move from being borrowers to investors and from financial literacy to financial mastery, where they fully control and grow their wealth.
To drive this transformation, she proposed 10 bold solutions to dismantle barriers and build a more inclusive financial system for women. She highlighted the need to expand digital finance for seamless access to financial services and called for gender-smart policies that prioritise women in economic decision-making.

Mrs. Anan-Ankomah also advocated for innovative lending models tailored to women entrepreneurs, enabling easier access to capital without unnecessary restrictions. Strengthening public-private partnerships was another key recommendation to drive sustainable financial inclusion through collaborative efforts.
Additionally, she underscored the importance of financial education reforms, equipping women with the tools to build, sustain and pass on wealth.
These solutions, she argued, will drive inclusion and economic transformation, ensuring that women take their rightful place as leaders and decision-makers in the financial ecosystem.
Chairperson for the lecture and Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, noted that the lectures align with the University’s commitment to gender equity and inclusiveness. She reiterated that empowering women has far-reaching implications for families, communities, nations and the global economy.

She further called for deliberate and sustained efforts to break down financial barriers and create an economic system that fosters true inclusivity.
