ASSOCIATIONS AND LINKS 

The University of Ghana is a member of the International Association of Universities (IAU), the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), the Association of African Universities (AAU) and the African Research Universities Alliance (ARUA). The University has also established academic and research links with several other Universities and Research Institutions worldwide and is linked to the Worldwide Universities Network (WUN), Norwegian Universities’ Committee for Development Research and Education (NUFU), the Council for International Educational Exchange (CIEE), International Student Exchange Programmes (ISEP) and the Commonwealth Universities Student Exchange Consortium (CUSAC), among others.

Currently, there are twenty-one (21) institutes/colleges locally which hold affiliation with the University of Ghana for the purpose of enrolment, teaching and award of degrees and diplomas of the  University.  These affiliations cover non-degree, bachelor’s degree   and   post-graduate   degree programmes.

The Accra College of Medicine (“ACM”) is a premier private and independent Medical College set up to provide cutting-edge medical education in Ghana. We are a tertiary institution established under the auspices of the Catholic Archdiocese of Accra in 2007. CIBT is accredited by the National Accreditation Board and Affiliated to the University of Ghana. Our first batch of graduates completed their studies at the end of the 2011/2012 academic year. There is something special about CIBT. It is located in the centre of Accra and is compact and not too large. Therefore we are able to maintain a friendly campus community and no student is missing in the crowd.

In 1970, the Institute was established to provide in-service training in public sector administration and financial management for the staff of the civil and public services (especially the staff of the Controller and Accountant General’s Department and Auditor General’s Department. At the time of its establishment, it was the sole provide of public sector financial management training in the country.

WIUC was founded in 1998 with full accreditation in 2000 by the National Accreditation Board (NAB). The African University College of Communications (AUCC), formerly known as the Africa Institute of Journalism and Communications (AIJC), is a private tertiary institution established in 2002 by Hon. Kojo Yankah. Honourable Yankah, the first President of AUCC, was former Editor of Daily Graphic, Ghana's widest circulation newspaper; nine years Director of the Ghana Institute of Journalism, seven years Minister of State, and eight years as Member of Parliament AIJC admitted the first batch of Diploma students for its Communication Studies programme in 2002, and was formally accredited as a tertiary institution by the National Accreditation Board (NAB) in 2004.

Knutsford University College is an independent institution established in 2007 to help meet the increasing demands for quality but affordable university education in Ghana, Africa, and across the world. Methodist University Ghana is a private tertiary institution. Methodist University admits students of any race, colour, national and ethnic origin to all the programs, activities, rights and privileges made available to students of the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, colour, national and ethnic origin in admissions policies, athletic and other school administered programs.

The National Film and Television Institute (NAFTI) was established in 1978 as a public Institution of Higher Learning under the Supreme Military Council Decree (SMCD) 151 of 1978 to: 

  • Train young men and women in the skills and techniques of film production;
  • Train Film and Television producers and actors in the production and publication of feature films for adult education on a national and international basis;
  • Organize classes, lectures, seminars, demonstrations, experiments, research, and practical training in all aspects of film production.

According to the church history, in 1843, the Presbyterian Church of Ghana established the first primary school in the country. This sparked off a series of bold, visionary and pioneering initiatives in the development of education in the country. Five years later, it established the Presbyterian Training College (PTC) at Akropong, the second higher educational institution in West Africa after Fourah Bay College in Sierra Leone. Since those early beginnings, the Presbyterian Church of Ghana has established and managed, in partnership with the Government of Ghana , hundreds of primary schools, many high schools and colleges of education.
