Akuafo Hall Hosts Memorable Carols Service and Singing Competition

Akuafo Hall at the University of Ghana embraced the festive spirit as it organised its annual Nine Lessons and Carols service and singing competition, dubbed ‘Christmas Around the Fountain.’

The night celebration which was under the theme, "A virgin will give birth", Isaiah 7:14, was organised to usher in the Christmas season and provide an opportunity for fostering community bonding and reflection among members of the Hall.

Dr. Elizier Taiba Ameyaw-Buronyah, the Director of Public Affairs at the University and the Special Guest of Honour, commended the Hall for inspiring the Christmas spirit in its residents by organising the event. She focused her address on the prophetic significance of Isaiah's vision, elaborating that, "a virgin will give birth" represents a divine plan by God to bring hope and salvation through the birth of Jesus.

Addressing the challenges of the contemporary world, Dr. Ameyaw-Buronyah encouraged unity, compassion, and love. She urged Hall members to be beacons of light, sharing a sense of community in their daily lives. Reflecting on the achievements of Akuafo Hall in 2023, she called on members of the Hall to celebrate shared accomplishments, including the 75th anniversary of the University.

The service featured various groups, including the Junior Common Room, Senior Common Room, Tutorial Office, Fellows, Senior Staff, Administrators and National Service Personnel, each contributing to the evening by reading the nine lessons and delivering Christmas song renditions.

Rev. Prof. Joseph Osafo, Head of the Centre for Ageing Studies and Resident Pastor of Rhema Worship Centre, Church of Pentecost, East Legon, delivered the sermon for the night. He urged attendees to perceive life as a gift rather than a right one enjoys. Prof. Osafo also cautioned against excessive expectations and highlighted the importance of reflecting on life's purpose and impact. He extended warm wishes for the season to the attendees.
