CEGENSA Inaugurates Management Committee

Management Committee members

The Centre for Gender Studies and Advocacy (CEGENSA) has inaugurated its Management Committee. Prof. Charlotte Wrigley-Asante, Director of CEGENSA in her opening remarks, welcomed members present and thanked them for accepting to be part of the management body of the Centre. She indicated that the Committee is a very important one since its major role is to provide guidance to the Centre.

Prof. Samuel Agyei-Mensah, Provost, College of Humanities who inaugurated the Committee explained that with the adoption of the collegiate system in 2014, the Statute of the University required each Centre or Institute to have a Management Committee.  He further noted that the rationale for the institution of Management Committees in the University is to serve as an advisory body.   He commended CEGENSA for the immense role that it has played in the past, especially with the development and the introduction of the foundational Gender courses. He expressed hope in members of the Committee and urged them to support the activities of Centre in order to promote the image of the University.

Members of the Management Committee pledged their support to the Centre and expressed readiness to support the staff to achieve the Centre’s mandate. The Management Committee comprise of Prof. Charlotte Wrigley-Asante (Director, CEGENSA), Prof. Akosua Adomako Ampofo (Institute of African Institute Studies), Prof. Nana Aba Amfo Appiah (Dean, School of Language), Prof. Lydia Aziato (Ag. Dean, School of Nursing and Midwifery) and Dr. Charles Ackah (Director, Centre for Social Policy Studies), all of University of Ghana. Other members are Dr. Genevieve Adukpo (Director, Centre for Gender Research Advocacy and Documentation, University of Cape Coast), Dr. Doreen Owusu-Fianko (Chairperson of Women in Logistics and Transport, Ghana and West Africa), Dr. Tony Aubynn (Former Executive Director of the Ghana Chamber of Mines and Executive Director of the Africa Institute for Extractive Industries), and Ms. Eunice Kwao (CEGENSA), Secretary to the Committee.

The Director of CEGENSA in her closing remarks noted that the presence of the Management Committee will enable the Centre undertake more proactive activities particularly in the area of fund raising and research. She once again expressed gratitude to all the members for accepting to serve on the Committee and hoped that CEGENSA would be able to fulfill its mandate through their work.
