Dr. Darius Osei, Ag. Chief Executive Officer, UGMC
Some faculty members of the College of Health Sciences have recently met with the Interim Management Committee (IMC) of the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) to discuss and chart the way forward to work together to effectively and efficiently run UGMC.
Speaking at the meeting, the Ag. Chief Executive Officer of UGMC, Dr. Darius Osei underscored the importance of setting up the right Board to manage the facility. He indicated that by September 2019, two out of the twelve surgical theatres will be ready for use, with the remaining scheduled to be completed by the end of the year.
Dr. Osei emphasised that the Centre was established to offer training, research and medical services and assured the meeting that the IMC was poised to achieve results with the support of faculty members of the College.
The Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Reverend Professor Patrick F. Ayeh-Kumi was delighted to see many members of faculty at the meeting. He urged them to get involved in assisting to resolve all outstanding issues to get the UGMC running as soon as possible. He sent a passionate plea to the Deans and Directors of the College to encourage their faculty members who are eligible and are desirous of working at the Centre to express their interest without any further delay in order to put together the best team to deliver the mandate of the Centre.

According to the Provost, he, the Interim Board Chair, Dr. Asamoah Baah and Ag. Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Darius Osei have informed government that the active involvement of the faculty of the College would be crucial to running UGMC. Professor Ayeh-Kumi assured that all the concerns raised in relation to the successful running of the medical facility would be addressed as soon as possible.

The University of Ghana Medical Centre is a 650-bed capacity state of the art medical facility built to provide medical care to the people of Ghana and beyond. The facility is the first of its kind to be constructed in West Africa. Some specialised services to be delivered by the medical centre include Gastroenterology, Trauma and Orthopedics, Urology, Ear-Nose-Throat, Cardiology, Dermatology, Neurology and Radiology and Accident and Emergency services.
