ISSER Ranked among Top Think Tanks in the World

The Global Go To Think Tank Index (GGTTI) 2013 has ranked the Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research (ISSER), University of Ghana among the Top 150 Think Tanks in the World.
The GGTTI, an annual report produced by the Think Tanks and Civil Societies Programme (TTCSP) of the University of Pennsylvania, ranks the world’s leading think tanks under a number of categories.
From the aggregate number of a whopping 6,826 think tanks worldwide, ISSER was selected for the category of Top150 Think Tanks Worldwide (U.S. and non-U.S.). ISSER and IMANI are the only think tanks in Ghana to have featured on the list of top 150 think tanks in the world.
The Publication of the GGTTI 2013 follows what the report describes as a rigorous, inclusive and objective nomination and selection process. The TTCSP invited more than 1,950 peer institutions and experts from 120 countries to participate in the ranking process. GGTTI 2013 recorded a world total of 6,826 think tanks, from which selections were made for various categories.
The TTCSP, also referred to as the ‘think tanks’ think tank”, started in 1989 with a focus to conduct research into the activities of research and policy institutions, and their impact in policymaking processes around the world. The TTCSP developed the global indexing of think tanks in 2007, to identify and recognize centres of excellence in all the major areas of public policy research and in every region in the world.
The goal for developing the annual GGTTI, according to the report, is to increase the profiles and performance of think tanks and raise the public awareness about the crucial role of think tanks in governments and the development process.
