Japanese Ambassador Pays a Courtesy Call on Vice Chancellor

The Ambassador of Japan, His Excellency Kaoru Yoshimura has paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ebenezer Oduro Owusu.

The Ambassador who was accompanied by the First Secretary, Dr. Yoshihiko Higuchi, noted that his visit was to afford him the opportunity to further acquaint himself with the work of the University of Ghana, and also to commit to strengthening existing healthy ties between his government and the University of Ghana.  The Director of Public Affairs, Mrs. Stella A. Amoa was present to receive the Ambassador.

An informal evening was later hosted by the Vice-Chancellor to acknowledge the recent levels of support which had been made by the Government and People of Japan and Japanese companies, notably Toyota Ghana.  The event brought together some faculty members of the University who had studied in Japanese universities, representatives from the Japanese community in Ghana, management of Toyota Ghana Ltd, JICA, as well as officials of the University.

In brief remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ebenezer Oduro Owusu, paid glowing tribute to the Government of Japan for making a commitment of a grant of US$20 million towards the second phase project of the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research; to Toyota Ghana Ltd. for committing to assist the School of Engineering Sciences to enhance teaching and learning.  He was hopeful that the good relationship between the University and the Japanese government will continue for mutual benefit.

Representatives from the various organisations took turns to commit to collaborating with the University of Ghana, and were appreciative of the honour done them in hosting them.
