Mensah Sarbah Hall Installs 19th Master of Hall

Dr. Innocent Y.D. Lawson, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Soil Science, has been installed as the 19th Master of Mensah Sarbah Hall at a colourful ceremony held at the forecourt of the Mensah Sarbah Hall.

The blissful ceremony which was officiated by Rev. Joseph Yaw Asan-Ntow and Rev. Fr. Wisdom-Bakhita Anane, commenced with an inspection of a parade mounted in his honour by the University Cadet Corps.

Delivering the welcome address, the Most Senior Fellow, Dr. James K. Adomako outlined the purpose of the gathering and extended hearty congratulations to the Hall Master on behalf of all Fellows of the Hall, wishing him a successful one.  Standing in for the immediate Past Master of the Hall, Prof. Dan-Bright Dzorgbo, Dr. Adomako, also a past Master of Mensah Sarbah Hall, presented the symbols of office to the new master, Dr. Lawson – a  key, a gavel, and an Adinkra ‘Gye Nyame’ symbol which he  noted were symbols of his high office, in addition to dependence on God.

Administering the vows of office, Rev. Fr. Wisdom-Bakhita Anane, charged the Master of the Hall to rely on God as he delivers his responsibilities to serve the Hall and the University at large.

In his inaugural address, Dr. Innocent Y. D. Lawson pledged to execute his mandate by exploiting economic and social opportunities to develop and raise the image of Sarbah Hall. He added that the motto of the hall, which is Knowledge, Honour and Service will be demonstrated during his tenure of office.

Other officers of the Hall namely, Senior Tutor,  Deputy Senior Tutor, Hall Bursar, Senior Common Room (SCR )President, Junior Common Room (JCR) President and a representative of the Staff pledged their support to the new Master.

Delivering the exhortation, Rev. Joseph Yaw Asan-Ntow charged the Master to serve the members of the Hall contrary to the usual practice where some leaders lord it over their subordinates and be faithful to his call by meeting the needs of the members of the Hall. He added that the Hall Master will be rewarded on the day of accountability if he delivers his mandate faithfully.

The first and Second Bible readings were done by Ms. Phoebe Nana Anunyaw Addy and Mr. Kofi Dua-Adonteng.

In attendance were University of Ghana Jubilee Choir who delivered melodious ministrations and the Ghana Dance Ensemble who performed cultural tunes at the event.

The Installation Planning Committee, chaired by Mrs. Stella A. Amoa, a Fellow of the Hall, had the following as members:  Dr. Roger Atinga, SCR President; Dr. Yvonne Agbetsoamedo, Deputy Senior Tutor; His Eminence F.A. Seth Nyonyo, Alumni President; Abraham K. Kumado, Hall Bursar; Ruth A. Wiredu, Master's Secretary; and Pius Theophiluss Baidoo, JCR President.

Present at the ceremony were  Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Academic and Student Affairs; Prof. Godfred Bokpin, Dean of Student Affairs, Mrs. Stella A. Amoa, Director, Public Affairs, Fellows, representatives from sister halls, staff and students.
