Mrs. Christy Badu Installed as 16th Warden of Volta Hall

Mrs. Christy Badu, Senior Assistant Registrar and Coordinator of the Carnegie Corporation sponsored APT-Ghana Project at the University of Ghana, has been installed as the 16th Warden of Volta Hall at a ceremony which took place recently.

In her acceptance remarks, Mrs. Christy Badu expressed her sincere thanks to God for the successes she has achieved in her career. She expressed her appreciation to her family, particularly her husband and son, as well as friends and associates for their unrelenting support and deep influence on her life.

Mrs. Badu enumerated the various capacities in which she had served in the Hall since she joined the University in 2001 and  acknowledged all past wardens of the Hall for their able and admirable leadership, adding that their exemplary lifestyle was worthy of emulation.

The new Warden described her new role as a call to service and pledged to build on the good work done by her predecessors, with the help of God and the Hall Management team.She noted that the task ahead is an immense one especially the commitment to shepherd the young ladies of the hall, at a time when evil has become permissible in the society.

She outlined some of the projects she was planning to undertake, such as, strengthening the tutorial system to ensure effective interaction between tutors and students so as to better prepare them to face the challenges of the modern world. She also mentioned her plans to work with her team to forge closer relationships with alumnae of Volta Hall, through increased interactions and joint activities. She said that Management of the Hall was already taking steps to achieve this by setting up an office in the Hall for the Volta Hall Alumnae Association and also organize an annual fun day, which will form part of the annual JCR Hall week celebrations.

Mrs. Badu also mentioned the continuous beautification of the Hall to make it the most beautiful Hall on campus and the completion of the Volta Hall Resource Centre Project.

Delivering a Sermonette, Rev. Mrs. Grace Fleischer, a Minister with the Light House Chapel and a staff of the University, urged the gathering to ensure that they use the talents given by God effectively. This she noted can be done successfully by trusting fully in God.

The Senior Tutor, Dr. (Mrs.) Eureka Ahadjie-Adomako, Hall Bursar, Mr. Hyppolite Dugu, President of the Senior Common Room (SCR), Ms. Gifty Boakye, the President of the Junior Common Room (JCR), Ms. Anita Opoku-Tawiah, and a Staff Representative, Mr. Moses Gyekpara, all pledged their support to the new warden.

The ceremony was jointly officiated by Rev. Prof. Cephas Omenyo, Provost of the College of Education and a Minister of the Grace Congregation of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rev. Mrs. Florence Simpson, also a minister of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rev, Mrs Grace Fleischer and Rev. Fitzgerald Odonkor of the Harvest International Ministries. In attendance was the Grace Presby Church Youth Choir and the Ghana Dance Ensemble.

Present at the ceremony were the Registrar of the University Mrs. Mercy Haizel-Ashia, past officials of the Hall, former Registrar, Mr. Teddy Konu, Members of the Volta Hall Alumnae Association, Hall Masters and Tutors from other Halls, students of Volta Hall, members of the University community, family members and friends of Mrs. Badu.
