President Mahama Pays Visit To University Of Ghana

The President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, has paid a visit to the University of Ghana.

The President, accompanied by government and party officials, first called on the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ebenezer Oduro Owusu at his office shortly before he addressed a large audience at the Central Cafeteria. 

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ebenezer Oduro Owusu, in his welcome remarks, acknowledged the President’s visit as honourable.  He spoke briefly the advances the University of Ghana was making in both its academic and infrastructural development, highlighting the establishment of the collegiate system which he said afforded more efficiency in academic administration and management.

Prof. Ebenezer Oduro Owusu touched briefly on the forthcoming December general elections. He called on the student body and Ghanaians in general to pursue peace by showing a sense of decorum, and abstain from acts of hooliganism and vandalism, adding that there was only one Ghana which was to be cherished and protected.

His Excellency, President John Dramani Mahama, first thanked the student body for the hearty welcome accorded him.  He said, as an alumnus of the University, visits to the University of Ghana, brought on a strong sense of nostalgia, mentioning in particular his fond memories at Commonwealth Hall.  He lauded University Management for attaining 7th position of best universities in Africa on the Times Higher Education (THE) ranking, adding that it was an achievement worth celebrating.  

Further in his address, President John Dramani Mahama said the government of Ghana will continue to move forward in pursuance of innovative and transformative development agenda. He called on Ghanaians to work hard and contribute their quota to the country’s development, while bracing themselves up for a future full of prospects.
