UG Management Interacts with Student Leaders on Fees Increment

Management of the University of Ghana has interacted with the various student leaders of the University to discuss the recent increment in fees. The meeting, which was Chaired by the Pro Vice-Chancellor in charge of Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Gordon A. Awandare, also gave the student leaders an opportunity to discuss other issues related to student welfare. 

Speaking on behalf of the students, the SRC President, Mr. Martin Gyasi Boakye requested Management take a second look at the cumulative increment of fees following the recent increment

In her remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo urged the student leadership to understand that the increment of fees was necessary to develop the University. She therefore appealed to the student leaders to encourage students to support the University by collaborating with Management, to help build an institution that they would all be proud of in the future. 

She also reminded the student body to be mindful of the ban on processions, protests and other group activities as well as the disciplinary actions that will be meted out to students who disregard the said directives.

Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Gordon Awandare, advised the student leaders to inform their colleagues who are having challenges in settling their fees on time to work out payment plans with the University. He assured the student leadership that the other concerns and issues brought to the attention of Management would be given the necessary attention. 

During the deliberations, Management urged the student leadership not to only consider the interest of the students but also consider the need for the University to raise funds to improve the quality of education and the learning experiences of students. 

Management reassured student leaders, the general student body, parents/guardians and all stakeholders of an open door-policy which allows for dialogue of all matters that concern the welfare of stakeholders of the University.
