UG/Azar Workshop on Paint Colour Technology Held

The Institute of Applied Science and Technology (IAST) together with Azar Chemical Industries Ltd. (AZAR) jointly organized a capacity building workshop on paints and colour technology at the School of Engineering Sciences on Friday 26th July 2019. This innovative programme was targeted at applicators and decision makers in the paint ecosystems.

Participants were drawn from construction companies, estate developers, paints distributers and colour enthusiasts in the theme.

Paints and colour experts from UG and AZAR worked together on delivering theoretical and practical knowledge to the participants in a truly multidisciplinary approach.

Dr. Benjamin Amponsah of the Department of Psychology explored the psychology behind colours by navigating the perceptions and responses to individuals’ choice of colours.

Dr. Louis Hamenu and Dr. Abu Yaya of the Departments of Material Science and Chemistry respectively delivered on the science behind paints and colours. They gave insight into the basic chemistry and engineering approaches in formulating and dispensing paints.

Mr. Sinar Knayzeh, Marketing Manager for AZAR and Mr. Zeyad Khoury, General Manager for City Paints Supply Ltd (a subsidiary of AZAR) walked participants through AZAR’s history and information about their products in Ghana and West Africa.

AZAR facilitated the practical session during which they showed participants how to:  pre-treat surfaces before application, use specialized products for unique application situations and other customized solutions offered by AZAR.

Professor George Nkansah, Director for IAST expressed immense appreciation to AZAR for collaborating with the University of Ghana in enhancing industry/academia relations and looked forward to deepen it further.

 Mr. Sinar Knayzeh was equally excited to join forces with the University in delivering a landmark workshop and announced plans of continuing this workshop in Kumasi and Tamale with the UG team.
