The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ebenezer Oduro Owusu, has hosted a lunch with the staff of the Grounds and Gardens Unit of the PDMSD at Vice-Chancellors Lodge to motivate the workers for the good work they are doing towards the greening and beautification of the University Campus.

It would be recalled that the Vice-Chancellor upon his inauguration set up nine strategic teams to enhance the university’s image and outlook.  Among which is the “Vice-Chancellors’ Green Team”.

The Vice-Chancellor indicated that he had observed the enthusiasm with which the workers had put in the post planting maintenance of the tree seedlings planted all over the University Campus especially in the caring and nurturing of the plants by regular watering, removal of weeds and the overall landscape beautification.

To encourage the workers and to express his appreciation in the implementation of one of his dreams, the Vice-Chancellor organized a lunch for the workers at his residence. He also gave each of the workers a token gift to express his appreciation and to encourage them to continue with the good works.

The Coordinator of the Vice-Chancellor’s Strategic teams, Prof. Andrew Adjei had earlier set the ball rolling by explaining the purpose of the gathering which he said, was to reward hard work.

The Co-Chair of the Green Team, Dr. Benjamin Ofori, spoke on the Students’ waste separation and recycling project.  He said special bins had been placed at the entrances of the various Halls of Residences to collect plastic sachets and bottles for recycling.

The Vice-Chancellor commended the workers and urged them to continue to take good care of the environment for posterity.  He promised to resource the Grounds & Environmental Health Unit with the necessary logistics and equipment to make the University environment clean and beautiful.

The Curator, Mr. Philip Quaye, on behalf of the Ground & Gardens workers thanked the Vice-Chancellor for the kind gesture.  He said the workers were thrilled and very happy for the kind gesture since this is the first time they have received such a treat.  The workers in unison promised they will do their best to make the Vice-Chancellor’s dream of a Clean, Green and beautiful Legon Campus a success.
