A three-member delegation from the United States Embassy in Ghana has called on the Vice- Chancellor to discuss the existing relationship with respect to the Fulbright Scholars programme.  The US Embassy delegation was led by Daniel Fennel, Counselor for Public Affairs, who was accompanied by Sarah F. Shabbir, Cultural Attaché and Miss Maya Parker, in charge of the Fulbright Scholars programme.

Welcoming the delegation, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ebenezer Oduro Owusu, said he was pleased to review collaborations between the universities in the US and University of Ghana in this respect, and called for the involvement of the Provosts and Deans of the respective Colleges and Schools to streamline the processes. He expressed gratitude to the delegation and hoped that more opportunities will be provided for students to further their studies in the US and that the existing partnership between the US and Ghana would also include opportunities for postdoctoral studies and training.

Ms. Parker indicated that about 3000 Ghanaian students study in the US which she said makes Ghana the 2nd highest country in Africa, after Nigeria. She said the fact that the University of Ghana has the highest number of these students proves that relations between the University of Ghana and the US are strong.

The delegation expressed appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor and added that the partnership will pave way for broader collaborations in the future.

The Vice Chancellor and the delegation later exchanged gifts.
