Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM)

Veterinary Medicine is the branch of science that deals with the application of medical, surgical, public health, dental, diagnostic, and therapeutic principles to non-human animals including wildlife and domesticated animals, including livestock, working animals and companion animals. The study of Veterinary Medicine permits the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and dysfunctions of animals, specifically caring for health of pets, livestock, and animals in zoos, racetracks and laboratories. Veterinary medicine also benefits human society in diverse ways since veterinarians use their skills to protect humans against diseases carried by animals and conduct clinical research on human and animal health problems. Veterinarians use their expertise to diagnose animal health problems, vaccinate against diseases, medicate animals suffering from infections or illnesses, treat and dress wounds, set fractures, perform surgery, and advise owners about animal feeding, behaviour and breeding.
