Sportsmanship and Solidarity Mark the Climax of UG Employee Week

The maiden UG Employee Week Celebration climaxed with a vibrant display of athleticism and teamwork at the University of Ghana Stadium.

Friday’s activities brought the celebration to an energetic close, featuring track and field events, indoor and outdoor games and friendly competition among all participating units. The games included athletics, volleyball, table tennis, chess, draughts, discourse, oware, ludo, javelin and football. 

The College of Basic and Applied Sciences emerged as the overall winner, finishing 1st with 5 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze medals. In 2nd place was Central Administration with 4 gold, 2 silver and 5 bronze. The College of Health Sciences followed in 3rd position, securing 4 gold, 1 silver and 7 bronze. Taking 4th place, the College of Education recorded 2 gold and 2 silver medals. Rounding up the table in 5th place, the College of Humanities earned 1 gold, 7 silver and 2 bronze.

During the closing ceremony, the Acting Vice-Chancellor and Pro Vice-Chancellor (RID), Prof. Felix Ankomah Asante commended the University community for the enthusiasm, unity and dedication demonstrated throughout the week. He noted that the maiden Employee Week had been extraordinary from the spirited float on Monday to the exhibitions, seminars and the climax with sport activities. He described the event as a true reflection of the theme “One UG, One Workforce,” emphasising that an excellent and engaged workforce remains central to the University’s growth and success. 

Prof. Asante expressed profound appreciation to the planning committee for their creativity, commitment and hard work in curating a meaningful celebration. He further recognised the role of the Human Resource and Organisational Development Directorate (HRODD), under whose leadership the Employee Week was conceptualised and institutionalised. He noted that the Directorate’s dedication to promoting staff welfare, inclusivity and a people-centred work culture made this initiative possible. He concluded by reaffirming that the University’s greatest asset is its people and that investing in staff well-being, recognition and development is key to strengthening the institution’s collective future.

The University of Ghana celebrates the successful completion of its maiden Employee Week and looks forward to even more impactful editions in the years ahead.
