UG Debate Team Wins Gold at 2025 Pan African Universities Debate Championships in South Africa

The University of Ghana (UG) debate team has claimed gold in the Open Debate Category at the 2025 Pan African Universities Debate Championships (PAUDC), held at the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa, highlighting UG’s leadership in continental public speaking competitions.

The team clinched the victory among 107 debate teams from 56 institutions drawn from 11 countries across the continent, underscoring the high level of competition and the exceptional performance of UG’s students. Their victory in the Open Debate Category reflects their eloquence, critical thinking skills and the University’s commitment to nurturing leadership, analytical ability and effective communication among its students.

The team was accompanied by the Registrar, Mrs. Emelia Agyei-Mensah, who provided guidance and mentorship throughout the competition. The UG Debate Team is also under the supervision and mentorship of the UG Sports and Wellness Directorate, which supports students in their training and participation in national and continental competitions.
