UG Medical and Dental Schools Hold White Coat Ceremony for Class of 2028

The University of Ghana Medical and Dental Schools marked a special day for the Class of 2028 with a White Coat Ceremony at the Great Hall on November 14, 2025. This important tradition is to transition students from pre-clinical to clinical studies in various health institutions in the country.  A total of 341 students, comprising 52 Dental and 289 Medical students, participated in this rite of passage.

Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Prof. Alfred Edwin Yawson, stated the importance of equipping students with values such as integrity, honesty and kindness as they interact with patients. He further congratulated them for achieving this milestone in their medical journey.

The Dean of the University of Ghana Medical School, Prof. Yvonne Dei-Adomako, advised the transitioning students to be mindful of their decisions and maintain confidentiality. She encouraged them to seek help when needed, assuring them of the support of their lecturers. 

On her part, the Dean of the University of Ghana Dental School, Prof. Sandra Hewlett, hinted that the profession would test them but also give them the privilege to make a difference in people's lives, urging them to be beacons of compassion and leaders with a heart.

Leading the swearing-in-ceremony and administration of the oath, Guest speaker, Dr. Divine Banyubala, Registrar of the Medical and Dental Council, charged the students to uphold the highest standards of medical practice as they embark on their clinical journey. He underscored the importance of maintaining patient confidentiality, respecting colleagues and adhering to the council's code of ethics, noting that these values are essential to earning the trust of patients and the public.
