UG Ranked Among Africa's Top 13 Universities, Retains West Africa Leadership in QS 2027 Rankings

The University of Ghana has maintained its position as the leading university in Ghana and West Africa while strengthening its standing among Africa's top universities in the QS World University Rankings 2027.

Ranked among the top 13 universities in Africa, the University of Ghana continues to strengthen its standing among leading institutions globally. The QS World University Rankings 2027, released on June 18, 2026, ranked 1,504 institutions worldwide, with UG's performance reinforcing its reputation for excellence in research, innovation, teaching and learning.

The latest ranking underscores the University's growing influence in higher education and its pursuit of global impact through innovative research, teaching and learning. The performance reflects the gains being made in implementing the University's 2024-2029 Strategic Plan, particularly in the areas of impactful research, transformative student experience, engagement and partnerships and faculty and staff development.

The University's performance across key indicators, including academic reputation, citations per faculty, employment outcomes, employer reputation, faculty-student ratio, international faculty ratio, international research network and sustainability, demonstrates steady progress in advancing its strategic priorities and strengthening its global standing.

A score of 93.2 in employment outcomes demonstrates the University's success in preparing graduates with the knowledge, skills and competencies required to excel in an increasingly competitive global environment. The result points to growing employer confidence in University of Ghana graduates and the quality of the institution's academic programmes.

The University recorded a score of 82.3 in international research network, reflecting the strength of its collaborative research projects, multidisciplinary research initiatives and scholarly partnerships across the world. The performance demonstrates the value of engagement and partnerships as a strategic priority while highlighting the University's growing contribution to knowledge creation and its role in addressing local and global development challenges through research and innovation.
