Two Officials from the Fondazione Edu Scholarship Scheme, Valentina Mutti and Chiara Piaggion have visited the University of Ghana to select eligible students for the scholarship scheme. The Officials were received by the Provost of the College of Education, Rev. Prof. Cephas Omenyo, on behalf of Prof. Samuel Kwame Offei, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (ASA), and the Head of the Students Financial Aid Office (SFAO), Mrs. Christine Baning.

Mrs. Baning, expressed gratitude to the Foundation for their continued support to brilliant needy students over the past two years. She indicated that the first batch of beneficiaries is currently in their second year, adding that 11 beneficiaries were selected last year, nine of whom are still on the programme. She said that out of the 49 students, who applied this year, 29 have been shortlisted so far.

The representatives noted that, apart from being needy and brilliant, the scheme is interested in students who are focused and have a clear vision of their future aspirations.

Rev. Prof Cephas Omenyo in brief remarks said he was delighted in the Foundation’s sustained interest in Ghanaian students. He noted that such sponsorship supports the conscious effort being made by the the University of Ghana to ensure that students needing financial are assisted.

He expressed the hope that the Scheme will continue to provide the needed assistance to brilliant students who are truly needy. 

The meeting was attended by Maame Efua Ocansey, a fundraiser at SFAO and Mr. Benedict Fosu-Adjei Assistant Registrar at the Office of the Pro-Vice Chancellor, Academic and Student Affairs.

The Fondazione Edu Scholarship Scheme is a family-run foundation created in 2005 and aimed at promoting young people’s access to higher education in developing countries.

Since 2006, Fondazione Edu has provided students in several African countries, the opportunity to access University education in their countries of origin, as a way of enhancing individual growth and enriching professional competences that can in the long run contribute to the region’s socio-economic development.
