UG and the Higher School of Economics, Russia to Establish Academic Partnership

The Higher School of Economics (HSE) in Russia visited the University of Ghana on June 19, 2023, to explore potential collaborations in the fields of education and research.

Acting Vice-Chancellor Prof. Felix Ankomah Asante, who received the delegation, extended his gratitude to the Higher School of Economics, Russia, for selecting the University of Ghana as its first partner institution in Africa. According to him, UG is willing to promote partnerships that align with its research focus.

Prof. Leonid Issaev, from the Faculty of Social Sciences, HSE, also expressed his institution’s eagerness to collaborate with UG. He expressed the belief that the university’s educational and research excellence, and its contribution to national and global development, aligns with the goals of his institution.

He added that both universities share common values and strategic priorities, creating a strong foundation for developing all forms of partnerships as well as fostering cultural exchanges.

To formalise the partnership, Prof. Issaev proposed the signing of an Academic Exchange Agreement during the Second Russia-Africa Economic and Humanitarian Forum, which will take place in St. Petersburg from July 26 to 29, 2023. The forum aims to enhance mutually beneficial partnerships between Russia and African countries. He then presented a formal invitation to the forum, addressed to the Chancellor of the University, Mrs. Mary Chinery-Hesse.

HSE believes that a university-wide Memorandum of Understanding, which has already been prepared, will give a good impetus to champion academic exchanges and new cooperation initiatives.
