The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ernest Aryeetey, in his remarks indicated that the four Centres of Excellence established in the University, have been allocated Gh₵1 million as seed money to develop research areas in Climate Change Adaptation; Malaria Research; Food Production and Processing; and Development Policy and Poverty Monitoring and Evaluation to address key developmental issues in Ghana, the African continent and beyond. He added that US$5 million has been earmarked for refurbishment of laboratories and the replacement of obsolete scientific equipment. He also indicated that through the Chinese phase II ICT project,  the University is now in a position to house large datasets for research and also do more computing research than before.

Prof. Aryeetey said the University is also in the process of providing connectivity to the Agricultural research centres at Kade, Kpong and Nungua to be at par with the main campus at Legon. He stated that the launch of the second edition of the Research Report attests to the fact that UG’s investment in research is paying off.

Professor Ama de-Graft Aikins who reviewed the Report said the report is largely an excellent document. She reviewed the Report based on four main points namely, the first impression, content, emerging insights and limitations. She indicated that the report is clear with logical accessible layout with good use of text, images and colour. However she noted that some critical information such as publications and research outputs crucial for measuring impact were not available and hoped that these will be addressed in the next edition.
