Vice-Chancellor Hosts Dinner For UG Sports Personalities

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ernest Aryeetey has hosted a dinner to celebrate the achievements of the sportsmen and women of the University during the just ended GUSA games at the University of Cape Coast. The dinner, which was held at the Vice Chancellor’s Lodge started with an interaction and an opening prayer by Prof. Agnes Budu.

In welcoming the sports persons and other invited guests, Prof. Aryeetey expressed appreciation to the distinguished sports personalities for their performance in the GUSA games and other sporting events, adding that by their achievements, they had brought visibility to the university and made the University proud.

In his remarks, the Director of Sports, Dr. Bella Bello Bitigu expressed appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor for organising the dinner to appreciate the efforts of the sports personalities.

Trophies won by the University of Ghana debating team during the just ended Pan African Debate Championship as well as those won by the men and women’s sports teams at the GUSA games were officially presented to the Vice-Chancellor.

Dr. Bitigu announced that the University of Ghana won the bid to host next year’s Pan African Debate Championship.

Prof. Matilda Steiner-Asiedu, a member of the Sports Management Committee, congratulated the students and encouraged them to strike a good balance between their academic work and sporting activities. She urged them to boldly approach the Sports Management committee to seek advice for any challenge that they might face.

The Pro-Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs (ASA), Prof. Kwame Offei who gave the closing remarks, thanked the Vice-Chancellor and Management for hosting a special event to honour the sportsmen and women, members of the Committee and other guests.

In attendance at the dinner were the Pro-Vice Chancellor in charge of Research, Innovation and Development (ORID), Prof. John Gyapong, Director of Academic Affairs, Mr. Enoch Amartey and members of the Sports Management Committee.
